OTC post 3
The best motivational theory for me is the Cognitive theory. For me, I am more intrinsically motivated when I feel in control of the outcomes and the results of my homework or assignments. This is helpful to me because I am able to push myself to become more involved in classroom participation or taking more in-depth notes if I can gain a better grasp on the knowledge and feel more successful in the topic at hand. It makes me view myself as a better student and person when I see that I have succeeded because of my hard work and involvement. If students could see that they control their performance to a certain extent and could see the positive outcomes that come along with depending on themselves to learn the material and complete assignments. Students would have a intrinsic motivation that they hadn't thought about before. Theory of motivation could be used in my classroom by showing them that the work they do is the result of what their grade is. Explaining to them that they have the potential to be a productive successful student would motivate them to try harder.
