QTC #2

After looking at Ingrid’s scores on standardized achievement tests, I would begin by telling Ingrid’s grandmother of her strengths based on the test: reading comprehension, science, and social studies.  It is very important to be aware of where Ingrid is succeeding, and it will also help her to know that she is doing very well.  Positive reinforcement in a student's life is very beneficial!  Ingrid’s scores in reading comprehension and science show that she is well above average in those areas.  Her social studies scores show that she is above average in that area, and she is average in math concepts.  Her weaknesses lie in spelling and math computation.  Ingrid is below average in spelling, but with a little extra work or tutoring she could be at average.  Her math computation will take a little more work to get up to average, but it is very close as well.  To help Ingrid pull these scores up, it would be helpful to quiz her on spelling words throughout the day.  To help with math computation, her grandmother could find online math games that will make learning fun and helpful at the same time.  Finally, to keep her reading comprehension scores high it is important to keep Ingrid reading books.  Her grandmother could buy Ingrid some new books that may be more difficult than what she is currently reading.  Again, it is important to encourage Ingrid to work on her spelling and math.  It can become frustrating for students who are struggling in specific areas, but having support at home can be incredibly beneficial.
