QTC #3
When it comes to motivation I think that cognitive motivation plays a big roll in my class. Sense the subject I teach is the first time my students have seen or heard Spanish I believe it is important to always find ways to for them to relate the topic at hand. For example I teach my students on a variety of topics that I hope that will spark an interest to motivate them intrinsically by seeing they can succeed when they apply themselves to get the good grades, and I try to do my best by giving motivational strategies extrinsically by teaching about the Hispanic culture in comparison to ours in the States, to pop culture, and even sports. I think it is important to give as much positive reinforcement back to my students when they communicate successfully in the foreign language and I still give positive reinforcement to those that are struggling. From a cognitive stand point I think it is very beneficial for students to know exactly what they miss immediacy on quizzes or tests to even notes we take in class. I make it very clear what they need to study in order to be successful. So, when I model to them that my class is a calm, welcoming environment I hope that will motivate my students to feel that sense of self motivation or self-efficacy when I not only show that I care about them, but through the interest in the topic at hand. A true sense of understanding of the language and culture and finding something they can relate to it will motivate them both cognitively and intrinsically.
