April Drake QTC #5 Cognitive Learning

a) What are the essential skills and/or learning outcomes you want your students to know and be able to do that relate to cognitive learning?

Cognitive Learning demands thinking on a higher level than just the basic concepts being taught to the students.  I think that cognitive learning is just as important as students learning a subject.  It teaches students to develop the more abstract thinking that is needed to function as an intelligent individual, which will be a large contributor to their successful futures.  Skills that I want my students to learn and be able to do that relate to cognitive learning include reasoning, abstract thinking, decision making, and problem-solving.  This can be accomplished through watching me model this abstract thinking, reading about it, or practicing with the class or shoulder partners.  This will help them not only be successful in school, especially higher level courses and college, but also in life.
