OTC 7- Chapter 8 (Edmonds)

Create Two questions, one the requires lower-order thinking skills and one that requires higher-order thinking skills.

These questions are directed at a 8th Grade Language Arts class that have learned about writing Business Letters.

1.) Why would you include the inside address (the address to whom you are writing to) in your business letter?

This question is a lower-order thinking question because it is basic. It require applying what you have learned. All that the students have to do is apply the knowledge and understand why the inside address goes in the letter. It is also a question that have a simple answer. If you do not know it, then you don't know it.

2.) With inside addresses in mind, write to a business about the disappointing service you received at their restaurant. Who are you writing to? What was the disappointing service? How should you conduct yourself in a business letter?

This question is a higher-order thinking question because it asks multiple questions in a question. You are applying the first question to the second, while creating a scenario on why you are writing a business letters. Students are synthesizing throughout this question because they are creating their own letter and making a relationship between who they are going to write to and how they should conduct their selves.
