QTC 5

As an early childhood educator, I think it’s important to teach young children skills that they will need and use for the rest of their lives. I believe that this begins with creating a safe environment for all my students. Children learn in positive and welcoming environments that promote learning. One of the advantages and disadvantages of working with young children, is that its easy to catch on if a child is struggling with certain concepts. Children’s body language and expression seem to shut down when they feel frustrated. However, its important as an educator to think of innovative ways to teach the same material to children. Some children might need more auditory vs. visual learning strategies. Our job can become frustrating when you can’t get your point across to a child, but I also think that this is an exciting aspect. Children carry on those experiences when they build their learning on prior knowledge. A behavior I would encourage from my children is to continue building on their foundation of knowledge throughout their lives, and with this comes application. Children apply their knowledge when they understand concepts versus having memorized information.
