1. What is the difference between over and cover strategies? Please provide an example of each. (memorize)
2. In your subject area you are teaching or will be teaching describe how you will promote the positive transfer of information instead of the negative transfer (apply).
1. Overt strategies are directly writing information from class outright whereas covert strategies elaborate on information overtly or plainly learned and take it to another level. An example of overt would be note-taking and then covert example would be identifying important information in the notes or text you are reading.
ReplyDelete2. I like to think of positive transfer of information like building blocks. Taking the time to make sure students have a solid and accurate foundation of knowledge and then building on the information later on. To ensure they have positive and not negative where prior information confuses later information learned, I will ensure that I am teaching the correct foundational knowledge and make sure that they fully understand that information before moving on. I will also foreshadow with where we are going with the information we are learning.
QTC 1...I believe the overt strategies would be a student showing the lesson which was just taught to them. If I were teaching students to plant a row of trees and planted the first one myself the way I want it planted and let them plant the rest of the row properly for a quiz score. I believe covert strategies are less obvious such as teaching someone to do sales on a tree planting. If a student were landscaping during the summer and we worked on sales tactics for getting someone to hire you to landscape their yard.
ReplyDeleteQTC 2 ...In agriculture the negative transfer of information will mean loss of money...My dad used to tell us when carrying tobacco sticks to our trailer that were loaded with 6-8 stalks on them to carry them high. We would let the lower leaves drag the ground in the field. This bad habit actually shreds the leaves which removes weight and costs money. So pay attention when your working and you will save money and raise revenue.
